I loved how it had a section about my major.

CRM system related information was very helpful.

The things I learned are:

Sourcing Function-Find Vendors: Who have the products we need, Who will give us a favorable price, who are reliable regarding schedule and quality.

Ordering Function-Send and Receive: Requests for informatio, Quotes, Proposals, Orders.

Settlement Function-Process: Receipt of goods, Reconciling goods received with purchase orders, Schedule payment.

The organization of the information about CRM was really helpful and interesting to me.

I am impressed by how well they analyzed the case study.

Raising more money and other solutions they have came up with are the definite help on the success of the project.

I also liked the exercise we did for a group work. It gave me another way to find resources and information.

Now I know various sources to look for information and some of the information I found were amazing.

Having a competitive advantage over other competitors is the key to business success and the chapter breaks down things very well.

Question No.2 is especially interesting to me because it is a new concept that I have never seen in any of the business books.

Calculation Systems, Functional Systems, and integrated, cross-Functional systems are very interesting.

I am excited to go over these in class.

The Value Chain is also introduced again in this chapter. I would love to get some help understanding the Value Chain and its use in relation to competitive advantage.

Competitive advantage is what your niche is. Things that make you better than other competitors.

It was very helpful to go over the Value Chain that we learned in Chapter 3.

Understanding the primary activities and understanding how they add values to customers helped me realize in what areas we can have competitive advantage over other competitors.

The value chain is under a manufacturing background but they can be used in other areas by just switching a few things.

I really liked the statement that Brother Curtis made.

We can outsource everything but operations.  I am interested in operations part of the business and it is comforting that I would be the one actually managing a company.

The case was an eye opening case to me.

The purpose of this system was for the ministry of Foreign Affairs to become a more dynamic, modern organization via the use of information technology.

The reason I say that this was an eye opening case is because this is the failed case.

There might be a good cause involved and there may be good technology involved, but things can go wrong.

It is very important that when we rely on technology, we make sure that we do not over or underestimate.

I am very interested to see how the presentation would turn out.

I do not want to even think about airplane crash.

But it is interesting that I can go to some database to get an understanding and feel a little safer after the reasearch.

I really liked that one of the students mentioned a view from an investor.

Brother Curtis showed us some government data too.

It is amazing how the government has collected that much data, that we can use for work.

Data.gov will be really a helpful source for getting information to answer my questions.

Aviation organization is a high reliability organization. They can go wrong and when it does go wrong, it is a disaster.

For safety issues, I think it will be very important to collect as much data as possible on flight accidents.

I am very interested to see what the team is going to present for this case study.

It will be great to learn about airplane and its accidents.

It will also be helpful if they can answer my question of how the data can help me

I don’t know if I will enjoy flights as much as before I thought of these things though.

I think SAP will especially helpful for me to learn more about Suppliy Chain Management.

I recently changed my major to Operations & Supply Chain Management, and SAP database info was very helpful to me.

It is neat that all the different fields of business have IS help with well developed data.

There are indeed a lot of options of data out there. Human resources and Accounting are good examples too.

I learned today that Quickbook is very useful in creating income statements and balance sheets.

It totally makes sense to use these already developed database. They provide audit trail and they are very helpful for b

big companies. This is something that Spreadsheets can’t do.

I do not believe that we choose to use database these days. We just have to use them. They are so great and helpful to keep a lot of data and organize them.  It is important for management to know how to use the database, but also it’s important that companies hire skilled users of database and technology. I really think that the only time we use just forms and queries is when we want to keep information just for ourselves.

Career Assignment No.5

In my research and findings for the jobs, I have gained interest in Goldman Sach.

They recently did job posting with BYUH, and their recruitment system looked amazing.

With my major being general business, I first thought that I do not fit into the company’s needs.

However, they are willing to open their job openings to all majors and to internations students as well.

To be more competitive when applying for this position, I think I definitely need help of IS.

I thought of creating my own blog or homepage that explains about me.

I think being able to introduce myself with a great profile online will attract the employ.

Because the company is one of the leading investment firm, and they are so into technology, I think pitching for my

ability to understand and utilize IT and IS will be a great help.
